Counting and Countering the Cost of Espionage

Espionage has become one of the most significant national security threats to Australia, impacting government, businesses and the university sector.

 

The Australian Institute of Criminology calculates espionage cost the Australian economy $12.5 billion in 2023–24. This includes the direct impact of espionage, for example, intellectual property theft as well as mitigation and response costs.
